Pre-Adoption Requirements

Pre-Adoption Requirements

1. We prefer that yards have a fence, unless acreage is involved-the home is in a country setting. Fencing requirements also depend on the individual needs of the dog. Individuals that live in condos, apartments, ect. should contact the rescue for additional information.

 2. Depending on each individual dogs, there will be time requirements regarding hours the dog will be left alone in a home. Puppies will require individuals to spend more time at home than an adult dog.

3. Individuals that are renting or a rent to own/land contract must obtain a written statement from the land owner stating that the tenant may own a Great Dane, a giant breed dog, on the premises and the landowner acknowledges the dog will live indoors.

4. All animal records for at least the last 5 years will be reviewed. Animals that are deceased will also be reviewed. Veterinarians must be able to provide a positive vet reference check. This vet reference check will consist of:

  • All animals in the household must be spayed and/or neutered. Visit here for more info regarding this policy.
  • Animals must be UTD on vaccines per vet recommendations, including Rabies. If animals have not been vaccinated due to concerns of over vaccination, Titer testing results must be provided.

Along with a statement from the vet acknowledging this practice has been discussed with the vet.
