Adoption Application in Word format.
Adoption Process-What to Expect
This is an area for potential Great Dane families to review the procedures to adopt one of OGDR's available Danes:
Please View the Pre-Adoption Requirements
1. All potential adopters must fill out an Adoption application, which can be downloaded here:
Word or PDF applications are available.
Please give us 2 weeks to review the application.
Also call and inform your references that the OGDR will be contacting them for a reference check.
2. Once the potential adopter has had an approved application a home visit will be scheduled.
An OGDR volunteer will contact you for a homevisit time and date.
They must be able to access every room in the home, garage, basement and any out buildings.
If access is denied to any area, the application will be denied.
Please do not ask the volunteer on the status of the application or if you are approved.
They are just the homevistor and do not know the status.
They will forward the application to the appropriate people within 48 hours.
3. Once the application and homevisit are approved, there will be a phone interview
to discuss additional questions or concerns pertaining to the application and
homevisit and additional information including the contract.
4. If the application process is completely approved,
including paper application, homevisit, and phone interview,
there will be a time for the family to meet the Dane they hope to adopt.
If the family and foster family feel that the dog will be a good fit then the final adoption procedure can start to take place.
Dogs cannot be met until the application process is approved and complete.
If it is decided that it is not a good match for the dog and family,
the adoption application will stay on record for a maximum of one year as long as there are no changes;
applicants may still be subject to another interview or simplified application.
5. Once a family makes the decision to adopt the dog, an adoption contract must be reviewed and signed.
Adoption Fee

The full fee must be paid at the time of adoption.
